Born in Manchester, Iain McMullen is a former journalist and a long-standing member of the Western Front Association who has spent almost four decades researching and walking the battlefields of the First World War. He is also a football supporter and his research into the experiences of footballers during the war was published on his website www.footballandthefirstworldwar.org in 2013. He worked closely with the National Football Museum, the Professional Footballer Association, and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, during the Centenary, and has advised a number of media outlets, including the BBC, Sky Sports, The Daily Telegraph and The Mirror.
