Permission to parent your child the way they need you to
In Parenting Your Autistic Child, parenting expert and SEN mum Lisa Galley offers a lifeline for parents raising autistic children. Parents who are exhausted by advice that doesn’t work, and the constant guilt of getting it ‘wrong’. It lifts the lid on the brain-body link, helping parents understand what’s happening inside their child’s nervous system in everyday moments like meltdowns, transitions, stimming, bedtime, or screen time – and why traditional strategies fail to take this into account.
This isn’t a book full of theory and behaviour charts. It’s about real life: the 3:30pm meltdown, the refusal to get dressed, the soul-destroying school run. It shows parents exactly what’s going on in their child’s brain and body during those moments, and helps parents to understand why the normal ‘rules’ of parenting just aren’t working.
With gentle science, practical tools, and deep validation, Parenting Your Autistic Child doesn’t just explain the ‘why’, it shows parents how to parent confidently, differently, and without shame.
