In the 1980s Scotland’s Central Belt, and Glasgow in particular, had a thriving road-haulage scene serving the large number of traditional industrial sites in existence. From grain and flour mills to ironworks and heavy manufacturing, these industries were served not just by Scottish hauliers but those from all parts of the United Kingdom. Michael Fallone recorded as much of this scene as he could and in doing so documented the landscape of the industrial areas as it started to change. Through a fascinating selection of images and informative captions he charts the journeys of many long-forgotten hauliers as well as those of hauliers who are very much alive and kicking.

Michael Fallone has been driving for a living since 1980. First, as a Glasgow bus driver until 1989 and then he joined one of Scotland’s largest haulage companies, W. H. Malcolm and has remained there ever since.
