Diethard Blum wurde 1944 in Völschow in Vorpommern geboren. 50 Jahre lang lebte er in Belgien, wo er für die Europäische Kommission arbeitete. Als Ausgleich für den Alltag als Schreibtischtäter folgte er der Trimm-Dich-Bewegung mit dem ihm eigenen Hang zur Übertreibung und lief in 25 Jahren 30 Marathons in aller Welt.
