Tells the story of Lord’s Cricket Ground, the headquarters of the MCC and the home of cricket, through 50 memorials, including stands, the pavilion, monuments, statues, gates, plaques and other commemorative items.
Lord’s Cricket Ground was established by the Marylebone Cricket Club at its current site in 1814 and has since become known as the home of cricket worldwide. Over the years Lords’s has built a magnificent cricket ground, combining historical buildings such as the Victorian pavilion with state-of-the-art modern structures. Within its walls, Lord’s contains many memorials to the history of cricket and the members and cricketers associated with this famous old ground. The stands are named in memory of leading cricketers for whom Lord’s was their home ground, the famous Long Room in the pavilion and museum hold priceless cricketing memorabilia, plaques honour cricketers who died in World Wars and even the gates to the ground memorialise cricketing greats.
This illustrated photographic history of Lord’s Cricket Ground through its memorials will appeal to cricket fans everywhere.
