An informative and accessible book that contains everything the older person needs to know and do to get their affairs in order and navigate the later stages of life.
'Deeply practical' The Times

'Sir Peter Thornton gives practical and reassuring tips to keep your life organised as you get older.' Times Radio

The essential guide to all you need to know and do as you get older and closer to the end of life.

It is not difficult to imagine the sense of panic when faced with the sheer administrative hassle of the end of life, despite the fact that it will come to us all sooner or later. As we get older, all that needs to be done can feel alarmingly daunting. The good news is that Sir Peter Thornton KC has rationally organised and prioritised everything we need to know, and presents it in a simple, straightforward way that encourages us to complete all the necessary tasks.

With chapters on what to do before death (such as a will and a Lasting Power of Attorney), money, pensions, inheritance tax, scams, health, home, care, your rights, and what to do after the death of a loved one, this puts all the information in one place, and is as easy to follow as a shopping list.

His Honour Sir Peter Thornton KC was a practising barrister in human rights law, a QC (now KC), founder member and head of Doughty Street Chambers, a Senior Circuit Judge at the Old Bailey (the Central Criminal Court) and the first Chief Coroner of England and Wales. He is now a Visiting Professor at King’s College London, a member of the Independent Expert Panel of the House of Commons, chair of the University College London Discipline Review Body, and international trainer of coroners with the Civil Service College and the Commonwealth Magistrates and Judges Association. He has written and edited numerous published works, and broadcasts regularly on civil liberty issues and criminal law and coroner law on programmes such as Newsnight, The Today Programme on Radio 4 and Rough Justice.
