A stunning collection of images celebrating the changing face of the city of Glasgow, which capture its special blend of new and old.
Glasgow, Scotland’s largest city, has long been an important cultural and trading centre. Its historic university and the wealth generated by the Atlantic trade, followed by massive industrial expansion, has left a legacy that can be seen in the fabric of the city today. After the Second World War, it underwent a massive rehousing and urban renewal programme, moving many people to the periphery. Since the 1980s, Glasgow has redefined itself, drawing many back into the city.

In this book photographer David Collie celebrates today’s Glasgow in a collection of stunning images which portray not just the new constructions that characterise the modern city, but also how the older buildings of Glasgow also survive alongside them, many turned into new uses, to create this unique and vibrant place.

David Collie grew up in Glasgow and has always lived in the Greater Glasgow area, apart from three years living in Newcastle. He has always been interested in the city but developed a deeper fascination during Covid, photographing the iconic buildings and those less well known even to those who have lived in the city throughout their lives. He has also enjoyed searching out the wide range of public sculpture, and recording the often-ephemeral Street Art. For the last decade or so, he has undertaken freelance photography covering commercial, social and events. He was commissioned to make portraits of local people for an exhibition and for several years provided images for a Scottish magazine.
