Benegal’s contributions to cinema were recognized with numerous accolades, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest honor in film. Satyajit Ray (1921–1992) was a writer, illustrator, and a notable filmmaker who brought world recognition to Indian cinema.
