Grantley witnessed the trail of misery left in the lives of users, families and their communities, as well as the short-term highs that seduced those addicted. This story follows the Wheeler Street Crack Outreach team and the development of their pioneering approach to working with users at a time when crack was feared drug on the planet.

Grantley Haynes began his interest in crack cocaine while on tour in the 1980s, when he witnessed the trail of misery left in the lives of users, families, and their community, as well as the short-term highs that seduced those addicted, noting how closely related heaven and hell could be. He had yet to learn that help or treatment would depend on one’s ability to manage the thoughts, feelings, and beliefs of the person receiving treatment, alongside the availability of care.    This story follows the Wheeler Street Crack Outreach team in Birmingham, UK. Their pioneering approach to engaging with users developed at a time when the mere mention of crack would instil fear, and the visible presence of users would make most hearts race. This team responded with empathy.    In this book, Grantley uncovers remarkable new details, dispels myths, and emphasises the most dramatic aspects of his years developing the team, implementing the Birmingham crack cocaine strategy, serving in the Hodge Hill constituency, and serving as a non-executive director at the National Treatment Agency for Substance Misuse.  Allow me to take you on a journey that reveals the untold story behind one of the most pressing challenges in modern addiction treatment. "Crack Cocaine Treatment and Me" provides a rare and impactful insight into the pioneering efforts to combat the crack cocaine epidemic in Birmingham, UK. Don’t miss this unique account of crack cocaine treatment development in the UK. Order "Crack Cocaine Treatment and Me" today to gain insight into the battle against addiction, the power of community-driven solutions, and the personal courage required to effect real change. I decided to write this book for many reasons, the primary one being to assist those who may be at home struggling to help someone using crack or cocaine, who may lack the courage to seek help. You may also have a strong interest in the community and work in social services or substance misuse, supporting individuals in need through other charitable, community-led partnerships or statutory organisations. Legacy has always meant a great deal to me: my mum, dad, sisters, extended family, and those who live abroad alike. I remember not knowing either of my grandfathers and being told about the murder of my mother's father. It hurt immensely, even though I never had the chance to meet him and listen to his stories.    Ultimately, I believe that writing this book allows me to share my journey and love for them in a way that enables them to trace the path I have taken and the sacrifices I have made as I strive to provide them with what I never had. To this end, I have always wished to gather my story in one place so they can look back and find solace when I am no longer there for them.  Imagine me at Leicester University, pursuing my M.A. in Criminology. I was asked to lead a ‘Drugs, Order, and Society’ seminar. I recall pondering how to approach it when my lecturer mentioned ‘Tackling Drugs Together’.
