This is a comprehensive and invaluable guide to the provision of all-weather surfaces for horses which covers the choice of site, drainage, construction, materials and maintenance, and includes a chapter on common causes of failure and how to correct them. New developments of major significance are: a patented arena base system which has been installed as part of the provision of an arena for a well-known dressage rider, and the continuing development of a patented turf reinforcement system, which has now been introduced at many venues, including Smith's Lawn polo grounds. The book covers surfaces for : *Outdoor Maneges *Indoor Schools *Lungeing Rings *Competition Arenas *Take-offs and Landings for Cross-country *Gallops and Racecourses *Reinforced Turf Innovations

In the 1980s Ray Lodge's daughter needed a new all-weather international-sized arena. Not completely satisfied with the products already on the market, the author utilized his mechanical engineering experience to experiment with different surfaces and filtration systems. Subsequent research culminated in the development of a system that serves all equestrian purposes and Ray Lodge has installed a great many of these on a variety of different sites. Susan Shanks is an experienced horsewoman who has gained her knowledge of what is required from a good all-weather surface both as a rider, working on different surfaces, and as an exhibitor of the products. She works in market research.
