Dive into the mysterious and captivating world of seaweeds. Marine algae form one of the most diverse and dazzlingorganism groups on the planet - and have shaped the Earth's ecosystems for over 1.6 billion years, producing oxygen, storing blue carbon and sustaining life both in the sea and on land.

In Seaweed, world-renowned marine botanist Professor Juliet Brodie reveals how these remarkable organisms underpin marine ecosystems, support biodiversity and even influence climate and weather patterns. From Arctic ice to tropical reefs, seaweeds thrive in every ocean environment - forming underwater forests, creating entire habitats and driving the ocean's carbon cycle.

This beautifully illustrated guide reveals the hidden stories of evolution, biology and ecological importance behind each seaweed; from a strange symbiotic relationship with a solar-powered slug to gender-fluid reproductive strategies as well as their role in sustainability and climate change. Featuring 50 stunning species profiles from around the globe, Seaweed is both a scientific deep-dive and a celebration of some of the planet's most overlooked life forms - perfect for nature readers, ocean lovers, coastal foragers and anyone curious about how seaweed helps fight climate change.

Professor Juliet Brodie is a leading global expert on marine algae. Juliet is an active research leader - currently undertaking two major research projects in the Falkland Islands and South Georgia. Her research has taken her to all corners of the world over a 30-year career. She is a faculty member at the Natural History Museum and has been involved in numerous outreach programmes and exhibits, as well as leading the Big Seaweed Search project. In 2020 she was awarded the prestigious medal of the Linnean Society for service to science.
