Neuausgabe. Text lateinisch-deutsch. Die hier erstmals übersetzte Chronik der Markgrafen von Brandenburg wurde am Ende des 13. Jahrhunderts auf Latein verfasst. Sie ist die dritte bekannte erzählende Quelle aus der mittelalterlichen Mark Brandenburg – nach dem Tractatus de urbe Brandenburg, der etwa zwischen 1170 und 1180 entstand, und einer Chronik der Bischöfe von Brandenburg aus der Zeit kurz vor 1240.
Das Original der Chronik der Markgrafen von Brandenburg ist verschollen, es gibt Kopien im Stadtarchiv Goslar und in der Stadtbibliothek Trier, die im 14. Jahrhundert angefertigt wurden. Die Aufnahmen dieser Handschriften sind hier mit freundlicher Genehmigung beider Institutionen veröffentlicht.
Grundlage der Übersetzung ist die Edition der Chronik der Markgrafen von Brandenburg durch Georg Sello in den Forschungen zur Brandenburgischen und Preußischen Geschichte (Band 1/1888). Anhang (Faksimiles): Die Abschrift in Goslar, die Abschrift in Trier, die Edition von Georg Sello. New edition. Text in Latin and German. With 58 colored illustrations of the manuscripts.
The Chronicle of the Margraves of Brandenburg, translated here for the first time, was written in Latin at the end of the 13th century. It is the third known narrative source from medieval Brandenburg, following the Tractatus de urbe Brandenburg, which was composed between 1170 and 1180, and a Chronicle of the Bishops of Brandenburg from shortly before 1240. The original manuscript of the Chronicle of the Margraves of Brandenburg has been lost; however, copies exist in the city archive of Goslar and the city library of Trier, both of which were made in the 14th century. The reproductions of these manuscripts are published here with the kind permission of both institutions. The basis for this translation is Georg Sello’s edition of the Chronicle of the Margraves of Brandenburg, published in Research on Brandenburg and Prussian History, Volume 1 (1888).
