Arthur Christopher Benson (1862-1925) was a noted English essayist, poet, and author, best known for his reflective and philosophical diaries and essays. Born on April 24, 1862, into an intellectually distinguished family, he was the son of Edward White Benson, Archbishop of Canterbury, and the brother of E. F. Benson and R. H. Benson, both of whom were also accomplished writers. Benson was educated at Eton and King's College, Cambridge, where he later returned as a fellow and tutor. His career spanned across various pursuits, including working as a housemaster at Eton and serving as the editor of the school's prestigious journal, the 'Eton Chronicle.' He was appointed Master of Magdalene College, Cambridge, in 1915, a post he held until his death. A prolific and versatile writer, Benson authored over 80 books, among them, 'The Isles of Sunset,' published in 1904.
