If you are looking for a guide for discovering the most effective diet on the planet, then keep reading...The diet known as the Mediterranean diet has its origins in the countries that border the Mediterranean Sea. This diet is based on a meal plan that relies heavily on the consumption of vegetables, fruits, unrefined cereals and grains, legumes, and olive oil. Dairy products that require processing, like yogurt and cheese, and fish and seafood are eaten in moderate amounts, along with a daily glass of wine. Red meat is eaten very sparingly. The diet is often thought of as being related to the poor man's diet of the ancients Greeks and Romans where the lower classes mainly lived on bread, olives, and olive oil, with an occasional bit of fish thrown in.The term 'Mediterranean diet' is a bit misleading because there is actually no one diet plan that can be called the Mediterranean diet, not like we tend to think of a diet plan that says, 'eat this, not that.' The Mediterranean diet is a blend of the foods of the countries in and around the Mediterranean Sea. The foods that are eaten on this meal plan come from the countries of Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Turkey, Morocco, Cyprus, and Syria, just to name a few. So, the diet is actually made up of foods from all of these countries that have given their influence on the Mediterranean diet. So, while some of the foods might be different from one country to the next, the basic premise is the same: fresh foods seasoned appropriately and enjoyed abundantly. This book covers the following topics:Why the Mediterranean diet?Breakfast RecipesLunch RecipesSalad RecipesFish Recipes...And much moreSome of the diet ideas are basic to the entire region. Olive trees grow in large quantities. The climate is mild all year long, which allows for the constant production of grains, fruits, and vegetables. Fish can be caught daily. Any food that can't be grown or caught can be found at a local market. Spices and herbs are used liberally. It is fitting that the word 'diet' comes from a Greek word, diaita, which literally translates to 'way of life.' For these people in this region, the Mediterranean diet is not a diet plan to follow but an entire way of life that the people live on a daily basis.Of course, with the renewed interest in healthy eating, the Mediterranean diet once again became popular and for many good reasons, especially the fact that the people in this region are far healthier and live longer than people anywhere else in the world. And since there are more options available in modern times than there were in ancient times, the plan is much easier to follow, even in today's fast-paced life.Following the Mediterranean diet means making good food choices from the selections available. It does not mean following a prescribed diet plan that might not fit your needs and your tastes and will not be helpful to you. You will decide what foods go on your plate and how much food you want to eat at each meal. Even if you do not actively try to lose weight, it will probably happen since the diet is so heavily based on fruits and vegetables.
