Culinary herbs are some of the oldest cultivated plants and continue to be widely used throughout the world to flavour and enhance dishes. They are also utilized in medicines and cosmetics, and play a role in many traditional rituals and customs. Herbs can be grown in beds, borders and containers, indoors or out, in small or large spaces. Whether you want a dedicated kitchen bed or just some herb bushes between the flowers and shrubs, this book will provide you with all the tools you need to create a fragrant and healthy herb garden.

David Squire studied botany and gardening at the Hertfordshire College of Agriculture and the Royal Horticultural Society’s Garden at Wisley, Surrey. His interests include native (indigenous) plants and their uses, bee-keeping and dogs. During his extensive gardening and journalistic careers, David has written over 80 books. Local consultant, Allan Haschick, worked in the retail gardening industry for over 20 years before starting his own landscape design company in 2016. Allan has been a contributing writer for SA Garden since 1999 and is a member of their reader advice panel. He has also written gardening columns for the Eastern Cape Herald and Algoa Sun newspapers, and gives talks and demonstrations to garden clubs throughout the Eastern Cape. His first book, Coastal Gardening in South Africa, was published by Struik Lifestyle in 2013.
