This title develops a structured approach to horse-handling and training, which comprises three steps and can take as little as 20 minutes a day. It contains detailed advice and practical exercises, and finally concentrates on continuing a greater level of communication from the saddle.
These problems usually stem from the owner's daily treatment of the horse, and therefore can be modified through learning a new approach to horse handling and training. In this way, anyone can form a mutually rewarding bond with a horse of any age and at any stage of its training. Richard Maxwell continues the ideas from his successful Understanding Your Horse and From Birth to Backing books by developing a simple, structured approach which comprises three steps and can take as little as twenty minutes a day. From handling and training the horse from the ground, and training from the saddle, From Ground to Saddle covers exactly that, as well as containing detailed advice and practical exercieses for continuing the training from the saddle with eight case studies.

Richard Maxwell has spent a lifetime studying equine behaviour, and after ten years in the Household Cavalry went to California to train with Monty Roberts. He is well known for his success with problem horses, both at home and at his popular 'roadshows', using the horse's own psychology and natural instincts to restore trust and mutual respect between horse and handler. Max has also written Understanding Your Horse and From Birth to Backing (co-written with Johanna Sharples as well), both published by David & Charles. He lives in Essex. Johanna Sharples has written for Britain's best-selling equestrian magazine Your Horse. Having written regular features on Max, and sent her own problem horse to him, Jo is well acquainted with his work and its amazing effects. She lives in Peterborough.
