A vibrant collection of local tales handed down through generations
These true stories drawn from historical sources and local reminiscences, have been brought together and retold by Eamonn Henry. This collection is a heady mix of tragic, funny, passionate and moving stories. Included here are tales of well-known events such as the Night of the Big Wind and the Flight of the Wild Geese as well as less well-known occurrences such as the Doolough Tragedy and the Lough Mask Murders and recalls local characters such as confidence trickster Old Neddy and the universally reviled Shaun na Soggarth.

EAMONN HENRY, a retired teacher and native of Swinford, Mayo, has written a wide variety of Mayo-related articles for online publication, and has edited the magazine section of mayo-ireland.ie, the most popular and comprehensive website in Connacht. He also runs mayogodhelpus.com and is the author of The Little Book of Mayo and Tales from the West of Ireland. During his professional life he was a member of the so-called `Drumcondra Mafia,’ Bertie Ahern's inner core of advisers.
