There are moments when Lily loses her temper, screams and fumes. Therefore many children don’t want to play with her anymore. Ben often feels disheartened and thinks that he is good for nothing. He often refuses to take part in lessons at school. Omid finds it impossible to sit still and listen...

This picture book shows in a visual and caring way, how emotional distress in children can affect their behaviour, their learning and self-confidence.
It tells of the difficulties these children encounter in their daily lives and demonstrates what their environment and what they themselves can do to make life easier for all involved. This is a book full of hope, which takes some weight off the topic.
This book can be used in many ways: in nursery and school, it can be read aloud and told in the family, but it can also be used in counselling and therapy. It is accompanied by supportive material, like a song and further information, which can be obtained at www.marianneherzog.com or at www.yestermorrow.eu.

Marianne Herzog, teacher, lecturer, supervisor and specialist educationalist for psychotraumatology, has become known beyond the borders of Switzerland by presenting complex organic processes in the brain in a visual way, to enable us to remember them even under acute stress. She is married and has three grown-up children. The idea for this book developed during a discussion with Regula Berchtold, project leader of HotA, when both realised the urgent necessity for a picture book on the topic of trauma and coping with trauma.

Jenny Hartmann Wittke is a graphic designer and illustrator with a studio in Basel. Together with her team she works for trade, industry and public authorities. «Lily, Ben und Omid» is the second children’s book she has illustrated. She is married and has two children.
