How Horses Help explores the role that equine-assisted therapy can play in aiding educationally and emotionally disadvantaged young adults in overcoming challenges and building independence. Through case studies and practical insights gained from years of experience, it offers parents and carers a guide to unlocking new possibilities for growth.
Gerry Harrington’s intensely thoughtful and highly informative book draws on her long experience using equine assisted therapy to help educationally and emotionally disadvantaged young adults to find their feet and live independent lives once they have left school. Taking the reader through all the different kinds of mental and emotional challenges which can be addressed and transformed through EAT, and demonstrating how it works in practice through case studies and stories, Gerry Harrington opens a door to a world of potential for parents and carers to explore.

Gerry Harrington has previously worked as a registered nurse and certified midwife. However, after having her own children and gaining British Horse Society examinations, she followed her love of horses and worked at The Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy in the New Forest for many years. She now supports people to find careers and occupations for themselves in the horse or animal industries.
