Donald J. Zinn (1911-1996) was an internationally known zoologist and a former chairman of the Department of Zoology at the University of Rhode Island. He was a tireless participant in conservation efforts, long before they became fashionable, climaxing his service with mulitple terms as president of the National Wildlife Federation. A lesser, but for his friends and readers almost equally rewarding passion, was his lifelong pursuit of delicious ways to cook and eat some of the creatures he studies. He was known as a "bio-gourmet" of considerable imagination, and he shared much of his culinary knowledge in this book.
