Packed with techniques, patterns, and inspiration for small-scale quilts.

Doll-sized quilts can be completed relatively quickly and inexpensively. They can be made into cushion covers, runners or wall decorations, or used as a lesson or as a trial for a larger project; and they can be swapped, gifted or posted. In these 15 step-by-step projects, sometimes the quilt is just one block, sometimes several blocks, but all have been designed with the same attention to detail as a full-sized quilt. Seven quilts have been designed by Sarah Fielke and seven by Amy Lobsiger, and the final quilt is a collaboration - with Amy making the central circle, then sending it to Sarah to turn it into a finished quilt. Techniques include hand- and machine-quilting, traditional piecing, paper piecing, applique and embroidery. The size of the quilts (nothing larger than 60 x 60cm/24 x 24in) will tempt you to try a new sewing technique or a new design concept, and you can either follow the instructions or use them as inspiration for your own quilt design.

Sarah Fielke is a quilter, teacher, designer and author. She has co-authored two hugely successful quilt books - Material Obsession: Contemporary Quilt Designs, and Material Obsession Two: Shared Inspiration. In these books, which have been published in four languages, she inspires quilters to be more creative, find their own style and step outside their comfort zone. Sarah publishes patterns for magazines around the world, including Down Under Quilts, Quilters Companion, Quilting Arts, Quilters Newsletter and Quiltmania magazine. She appears regularly in quilting features in international home magazines and is the creative editor of a website for all things sewn. Amy Lobsiger has been a quilter for 20 years. She has worked at her local quilt store for a decade, teaching, designing store samples and writing patters. Amy lives in Michigan, USA.
