The Midlands area of England is one of great industrial heritage. Much of that heritage is bound up in the history of the major railway companies whose 19th century rivalry contibuted so much to the development of Midlands Two companies in particular fought to bring properity for both themselves and the region - the Great Western Railway and the Midland Railway. Their great main lines still survive today and are vital corridors to other parts of the United Kingdom. Although steam locomotives no longer provide the commercial power on these routes, they can still be seen on these main lines, as well as the great preserved lines which can be found throughout the region. These snorting, living machines bring the thrill of steam power to new generations of enthusiasts, harking back to the age of steam and continuing to bring to life the Glory of Steam in teh South & West Midlands.
