Valmik Thapar has known Ranthambhore for 36 years and was amazed at how much monsoon rain the Park had received in 2011. The forest had turned green in days, and all the dry streambeds were literally brimming with water. The monsoon downpour made Ranthambhore look like an 'emerald forest'. Thapar takes us on a journey over the first days of October 2011 around the Park as it appeared to erupt in a burst of green teeming with life and with its incredible tigers. Captured almost moment to moment, the close to 200 colour photographs meld into one another to create a visual continuity perhaps experienced only in motion pictures.

Valmik Thapar is an internationally celebrated tiger and wildlife conservationist. He is a member of the National Board of Wildlife chaired by the Prime Minister, and is the author of twenty-two books on tigers, wildlife, and Africa, most recently Tigers-My Life: Ranthambhore and Beyond (2011), The Tiger: Soul of India (OUP 2010), An African Diary: 12 Days in Kenya (OUP 2009), Ranthambhore: 10 Days in the Tiger Fortress (OUP 2008), The Illustrated Tigers of India (OUP 2007), and Tiger: The Ultimate Guide (OUP 2005).
