A 100-year-old guide book brought back to life
Stroud has witnessed many changes since the original version of this book was first published over 100 years ago. A fourth reprint, from 1911, was recently discovered in a local resident's collection, and gives the modern reader a glimpse into Stroud Valley life all those decades ago. The original edition of this book was published in the late nineteenth century by 'Burrow's Royal Series', and is therefore in demand by antiquarian book dealers and collectors.
This valuable historical guide contains a cornucopia of photographs, advertisements and information relating to the Stroud area. As well as general information, the book includes interesting chapters on drives and short cycle trips, the geology of mid-Gloucestershire, archaeological notes on the district, and church bells of mid-Gloucestershire.
