Compilation of traditional French recipes and anecdotes
This
is a compilation of RECIPES collected in FRANCE mainly the Herault, and
from a wide selection of kindly French people who have allowed us to
put together a selection of their old family recipes, anecdotes and
their favourite jokes – the ones which they thought might well suit the
British sense of humour … well we’ll see about that!We
set out to distribute exactly 100 questionnaires to various individuals
in FRANCE chosen at random. We asked if they would mind giving us an
old family recipe (the older the better) of their region, and also to
tell us a favourite French joke. We supplied them with a large stamped
addressed envelope to use when posting back their responses to us at our
base in Valras Plage, near Beziers, Southern France. And do you know
what? We had 74 replies!
Incroyable – The French people loved the idea, and they certainly went to town!
Over
a long period of time travelling the backroads of southern France we
have gathered a lot of material and from numerous sources. We’ve had
papers returned with old documents attached… most with pastis or wine
stains – which should add to the ‘atmosphere,’ nay the ‘warmth’ of these
returned questionnaires, many including very old jokes and recipes!
Watch out you won’t necessarily be able to decipher everything!
