Présentation en anglais
Located in Terrasson-Lavilledieu in Périgord, the Jardins de l'Imaginaire overlook the Vézère Valley, a site that has been included by Unesco on its World Heritage list. The Jardins de l'Imaginaire are the only such gardens in France, based on a contemporary concept.
Covering an area of more than 6 hectares, they take visitors on a colourful, cool walk.
From the Sacred Woodland so popular with the Romans because of its box trees to the Water Garden symbolising power and the Rose Garden with its delicate blooms in many different hues, the architect and landscape gardener Kathryn Gustafson has worked like an Impressionist painter to create a collection of 13 tableaux that skilfully and poetically recall the universal myths and legends linked to the history of gardens.
The gardens were the idea and great ambition of one man, Pierre Delmon, Mayor of the town, and it was his perseverance that made it happen. His one desire was to make Terrasson-Lavilledieu a town that offers visitors a chance to share its overriding love and enthusiasm for gardens, in the great garden that we know as Europe.
