Audrey Sykes hopped across the Atlantic pond in 2005 for a double master's degree in international journalism and never returned. She has been a sportswriter in the Alps, a music critic in England, a nightlife reporter in Berlin, a adventure journalist in the South Caucasus, a beer blogger in Belgium, and above all, an author on Amsterdam. Her love affair with Amsterdam began as a broke grad student giving walking tours for tips. Her first writing gig on the city was for EuroCheapo, revealing all thinkable ways to live on a shoestring in the Dutch capital. Then came SPIN magazine and PartyEarth, writing about the city's sultry nightlife and endless music scene. Sykes worked as a features journalist and editor for expat news sites, bleeds and magazine guides. In the summers Sykes still gives walking tours in Amsterdam, but prefers putting people around by boat when she can commandeer one.
