In diesem Bildband sind Stimmungen und Orte, Jahreszeiten und Details, die Ecken und Kanten einer Stadt eingefangen, die so gar nicht mit anderen Städten vergleichbar ist.Aus der Jungsteinzeit um 2000 v. Chr. gibt es erste Siedlungsspuren im heutigen Stadtgebiet. Die Stadt Radebeul in ihrer gegenwärtigen Ausdehnung entstand dagegen erst 1935, mit der letzten Zusammenlegung von einstmals zehn Gemeinden. Die Ursprungsgemeinden könnten unterschiedlicher nicht sein, vom Bauerndorf am Ufer der Elbe bis zum kurfürstlichen Weingut an den Hängen der Lößnitz. Diese Gegensätze spiegeln sich mit all ihren Spannungen, Bögen und Brüchen bis heute im Stadtbild wider und bestimmen das Flair dieser Stadt. Der Besucher sucht vergebens nach der Stadtmitte oder einem zentralen Marktplatz, kann dafür aber acht Dorfanger und zwei ausgedehnte Villenquartiere entdecken. The oldest traces of human inhabitation in the territory of the town are from the Neolithic period, from around 2000 B.C., while Radebeul reached its present size as late as 1935, the year when the integration of 10 original communities was completed. The original communities could not be more dissimilar: ranging from a country village by the banks of the River Elbe to an electoral wine-growing estate on the Lößnitz hill slopes. These contrasts create tensions, fractures and ties, which are reflected in the townscape to this day and characterize the atmosphere of this town. Visitors will search in vain for a downtown area or a central market square, but they can discover no less than eight village greens and two extensive villa districts. Things that have been there from your childhood may easily escape your notice. Emotional experiences might, for example, make you place undue weight on the motif of a bench in a park. On the other hand, a local author might take an unexpected route where the mainstream goes “straight on”. Apart from splendour, the book reflects peace and modesty. Odd, eccentric and exceptional details are found both in harmony and in contrasts. The town and its landscape abound in such motifs. The selection presented here cannot be more than a small section. Half a search for traces, half a journey of discovery, these photos have come from the author’s tours of Radebeul in the first decade of the 21st century.
