On 31 January 2007 the Registers of Scotland launched the Automated Registration of Title to Land (ARTL) system. ARTL represents a fundamental change in the process of Land Registration and was introduced into Scotland for dealings with the whole of registered interests in the Land Register.
A demonstration CD of ARTL will be included with the book.

The law of execution of deeds therefore had to be radically overhauled where the ARTL system is used because of the requirement for digital signatures, meaning there are no witnesses as such.

Professor Stewart Brymer is a partner in Thorntons Law LLP in Dundee and part-time lecturer in the Practice of Conveyancing at the University of Dundee.
