When we speak of legal science, it is usually in the singular. In reality, however, the legal profession deals with many laws: private, criminal and public law or, to put it differently, black letter law on the one hand and legal history, philosophy, sociology and all the "-isms" on the other hand. What, then, is the real legal science? The authors of the articles in this volume analyze the problem of intradisciplinarity in the law. How do lawyers think in the different areas of the law? How does this way of thinking influence legal methodology and our conceptions of the law? Can we still speak of law in the singular? The authors of the articles in this volume outline a new methodology of legal thinking, drawing on the law's inner diversity and the different interests pursued in its different branches. They also give a critical account of the more traditional German approach, which sees legal science as a unity.
