It forms part of a burgeoning academic movement known as the New Administrative History, which seeks to restore a knowledge of administrative processes to its rightful place of importance in the historiography of early modern England. The book will be essential reading for anyone wishing to understand the early history of parliament.

Autor

Jonathan McGovern is Professor of English at the College of Foreign Languages and Cultures, Xiamen University, China. He is the author of The Tudor Sheriff: A Study in Early Modern Administration (Oxford University Press, 2022) and The Little History of England (The History Press, 2024).
