This comparative picture of enterprise law, markets and social norms of the three leading economies shows how the interrelated effects of various laws, markets and norms affect the incentives of each participant and how these shapes the accepted business practices in a country, and in turn, the broader business system.
This comparative analysis of business systems examines firms and enterprises across three major economies in the world: the US, China and Japan. It asks how the law relates to business practice, economic growth and social development; and how enterprise law maximizes firm value in these three jurisdictions. The divergent legal, social and economic approaches towards the market, firms, and business and corporate law in these three major economies justify a close scrutiny of enterprise law with the aim of better understanding legal and economic models for social and economic development in a comparative context. This book will be of interest to academics and practitioners in law, business, management, public policy, political science, and economics. It offers a useful framework for legislative policy makers across the world - particularly in developing countries.

Zenichi Shishido is Professor of Law at Musashino University, Tokyo, Professor Emeritus at Hitotsubashi University, Tokyo, and has been a Visiting Professor at Harvard University, Columbia University, Duke University and the University of California, Berkeley. Wei Shen is KoGuan Distinguished Professor of Law at Shanghai Jiao Tong University KoGuan School of Law, and has been a visiting professor at New York University School of Law, Michigan Law School, University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, National University of Singapore Faculty of Law, among others.
