READING NOTE ON CLINICAL CRIMINOLOGYThis manual contains teachings relating to the individual phenomenon of crime. From the outset, particular emphasis is placed on the definition of clinical criminology in both the broad and narrow or specific sense.Clinical criminology is the branch of applied criminology that aims to 'study individuals who commit crimes in order to determine the measures that are likely to prevent them from reoffending.'With its origins in scientific criminology, with Lombroso's assertion of the need for medical and psychological examination of criminals and Garofalo's assertion of the need for social investigation, the ultimate goal of this discipline is the social rehabilitation of offenders.Italian authors, particularly Garofalo, point out that clinical criminology is based on the concept of dangerousness, which is defined here before its components are identified, i.e. its constituent elements (criminal capacity or temerity and adaptability), its forms and its purpose.

Professor Sylvanus MUSHI BONANE, author of the present Manual is Doctor of Law at the University of Kinshasa where he has been teaching the Clinical Criminology Course since the 2014-2015 academic year to date. Similarly, he has been teaching the same course at the Université Protestante du Congo, UPC in acronym, since the 2016-2017 academic year to date.
