Originally published in 1965, the author makes a strong case for the study of international relations, arguing that given the rational approach he advocates, it is possible to avoid a major war since no government wants one. His theories reach some controversial conclusions. Throughout the book the author illustrates his arguments with examples taken from the last 100 years of European history. John Wakelin (1929-2018) was a Headteacher at Hinchingbrooke School from 1965 - 1982 and then a writer on politics, meticulously researching and writing books on education and the welfare state.
