Of interest or benefit to: Practitioners specialising in social security and labour law, Trade union officials, Departments of Social Services, Labour, Health and Finance, Social services professionals and students
Essential Social Security Law examines the law that seeks to alleviate the economic and social consequences when a member of society suffers a complete or partial loss of income because of some contingency. It focuses on those contingencies that have a direct impact on an employee's earning capacity, such as old age, employment injuries, unemployment, sickness, invalidity, and maternity. It also deals with contingencies such as the death of a breadwinner, medical incapacity, the inability to maintain children, personal and community crises, hardship caused by the state and the lack of opportunities for disadvantaged members of society. An accompanying CD-ROM contains the full text of the book, a half-hour video, relevant legislation and a study guide. Relevant legislation is discussed and the impact of HIV/AIDS on the different forms of social security is highlighted. The book also deals with the financing and administration of social security, unfair discrimination in social security legislation and the rights of migrant workers in social security.
Essential Social Security Law will be of particular value to practitioners specialising in social security law and labour law as well as to trade union officials. It will also be of great value to officials in the Departments of Social Services, Labour, Health, and Finance.<
