Adjudicating Campus Sexual Misconduct and Assault: Controversies and Challenges convenes the voices of leading legal and social analysts and practitioners to discuss the most complex dimensions of this timely and critical issue. The volume provides thorough and honest assessment of adjudication options and promotes dialogue regarding how to increase collaboration, improve responses, and address challenges that arise both within institutions and externally.

The text addresses the issue of consent, mandatory reporting, confidentiality, the role of attorneys, and standards of proof. Contributors discuss how campus adjudication processes differ from those of the criminal justice system; the advantages and disadvantages of various models of investigation and adjudication, including alternative models such as restorative justice; and the advantages and disadvantages of various types of sanctions. The book features perspectives regarding adjudication and sanctions from both the accused and college students more broadly. It concludes with a discussion of best practices and recommendations for continued progress.

Adjudicating Campus Sexual Misconduct and Assault is part of the Cognella Series on Family and Gender-Based Violence, an interdisciplinary collection of textbooks featuring cross-cultural perspectives, cutting-edge strategies and interventions, and timely research on family and gender-based violence.

Her research focuses on the violent victimization experiences of socially and economically marginalized women and includes an evaluation of a therapeutic horticulture program at a shelter for battered women, studies of the effects of religiosity on intimate partner violence perpetration, and factors influencing identification and prosecution of human trafficking cases. Dr. Renzetti has held elected and appointed positions on the governing bodies of the Society for the Study of Social Problems, American Society of Criminology, Eastern Sociological Society, and Alpha Kappa Delta, the sociological honors society. Diane R. Follingstad holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Colorado. Dr. Follingstad's research in the area of intimate partner violence has covered issues related to battered women, physical dating violence, and factors impacting jury verdicts in cases where battered women killed a partner. Most recently, her research efforts have led to more sophisticated measurement of psychological aggression and abuse, and she has published a critique regarding the problems of measurement in this field. She is a board-certified forensic psychologist and has served as president of the American Board of Forensic Psychology.
