Official figures show there were at least 35,588 murders in Mexico in 2019, resulting in an unprecedented period of bloodletting by Mexican crime groups - such as the CJNG, the Templar Cartel, Las Viagras, the Nueva Familia Michoacana, the La Linea cartel and the Los Salazar crime group. President Lopez Obrador has vowed to "pacify" the country by waging war on the social roots of crime, but his strategy has failed badly; evidenced by the massacre of November 2019 in northern Mexico - cartel gunmen killing at least six children and three women; killing children at point-blank range and shooting one mother as she begged for their lives. The Mexican government is unable to put an end to cartel violence; due to government inertia and fear of retaliation by Mexican drug cartels - or so it seems. Hence it is imperative that an effective multi-national anti-cartel strategy is implemented - with the assistance of the international community - to finally restore rule-of-law and human rights in this beautiful country.
