With over 1,300 Afghan civilians already killed in 2019, it is imperative that Taliban militants and the Afghan government finally make peace; so that humanitarian disaster can be averted. The Afghan Taliban has the power to end the conflict - but is unwilling to do so - as still no agreement has been reached to end the 18-year war; Taliban militants continuing to bicker with US officials; while Afghanistan descends into chaos, death and destruction. Also, human rights defenders in Afghanistan are suffering relentless attacks, intimidation and harassment amid escalating violence, the NGO Amnesty International has reported - a damning report castigating both the government and armed groups, including the Taliban and Islamic State - activists and members of civil society organisations having been shot at and killed in attacks that remain uninvestigated by the authorities. Hence it is imperative to finally end the 18-year war in Afghanistan; current Taliban-US Peace efforts being plain and simply insufficient!
