It discusses the protections the FTCA may provide to federal employees sued in tort. It explains the FTCA’s rules for damages and for financial matters, including attorneys’ fees, costs, and interest. Finally, it examines the FTCA settlement process and recommends approaches to settlement negotiations.

Autor

Paul Figley was a litigator in the Civil Division of the U.S. Department of Justice for three decades, much of that time working on Federal Tort Claims Act issues. For fifteen years he served as Deputy Director, Torts Branch, where his responsibilities included the defense of many of the cases discussed in this book. He now teaches Torts and Legal Rhetoric at American University’s Washington College of Law. There, he was twice elected Professor/Faculty Member of the Year by the Student Bar Association and, in 2017, received the Emalee C. Godsey Award for faculty scholarship.
