The Market Abuse Regulation (MAR) entered into force in 2016 within the European Union, which introduced a fully harmonized ban on market manipulation. Bergþórsson convincingly argues that misinformation is an essential element of all forms of market manipulation.

Andri Fannar Bergþórsson, Ph.D. (2017), University of Copenhagen, is Assistant Professor of Capital Market Law and Company Law at Reykjavik University. He has published various articles on market abuse and disclosure obligation within Capital Market Law.
