This workbook is designed to provide a simple note taking aid for students enrolled in college or police academy criminal law classes. It should be used in the classroom and for outside study and review in an organized course with a qualified instructor. It is not intended to be used for individual self-study, although it could be beneficial for such use by helping a student to organize his or her reading and study methods. The workbook utilizes several unique features:
Note taking Outline: The note-taking outline is the most important feature of the workbook. It is used in class in place of the usual note taking materials. It eases the task of reducing the instructor's lecture to written notes by providing an organized framework of the lecture to be filled-in with short, pertinent notes during classroom lectures. This organizes and simplifies the note taking process, while still requiring the student to be attentive to the instructor's lecture.
Self-Instruction Programs: Unique programmed lessons are used for self-instruction outside of class. They use the same principles as employed in computerized teaching programs. Three chapters of the workbook are presented in this manner and provide a refreshing departure from routine reading assignments.
Problem Exercises: Exercises are included in each chapter. They consist of true-false, fill-in and short essay questions to be completed as homework assignments or in classroom group study. The essay problems provide interesting practical situations to test a student's ability to apply the law to real live situations.
Study Aids: A number of charts, diagrams and check lists provide a variety of tools to help the student in learning complex legal material.
Discussion Guides: Discussion guides are provided to organize and facilitate group discussions of the major concepts presented in class.
