Corporate Social Responsibility and the Law is a topic at the forefront of international legal debate, increasingly embedded into the legal curriculum worldwide. This proposed book aims to explore established and developing issues relating to law and CSR, providing students and researchers in the field with a thorough understanding of CSR in context.

CSR and the Law offers a thematic overview of major areas of debate, presenting illustrative examples and case studies from jurisdictions around the world. The text addresses the following major topics:

the commercial climate that surrounds and underpins CSR

the legal and policy frameworks that structure and regulate decision-making concerning CSR

the legal and governance techniques that have evolved in promoting CSR, as well as critical analysis of these techniques

how firms may respond to the different CSR approaches

Comprehensive and clearly written, this text offers a thorough resource that will be of benefit to those studying CSR, business law and human rights in law and business schools internationally.

Gary Lynch-Wood is a Senior Lecturer in Law. He is the LLB Programme Director, the Course Director for Legal Methods and Systems (a compulsory unit taught to all first-year undergraduates), and a core member of the China-EU School of Law (CESL). His specialist area relates to the corporate and commercial aspects of law, corporate social responsibility and governance. He has published widely on these issues in leading journals (e.g., Journal of Law and Society, Journal of Business Ethics, Environmental Politics), and he also runs a successful postgraduate module on the regulatory aspects of corporate social responsibility. Gary is also a core member of `ManReg’ (The Manchester Centre for Research on Regulation, Governance and Security).
