The main objective of this text is to consider what impact women's increasing involvement in the labour market has had on their lives and whether - and if so how - the labour market has changed to take account of women's increased involvement. The book therefore evaluates laws and policies from a range of sources - the European Union, government, trade unions and equality agencies such as the Equal Opportunities Commission, which are directed either specifically at working women or at the labour market in general. This evaluation comprises two stages. In the book's opening chapters, these laws and policies are placed in their theoretical, political, legal and social context. This is followed by a commentary on specific laws and policies as they impinge on discrete aspects of working life such as wages or pensions.
