This book, "Transformative Adaptation to Climate Change: From Policies and International Agreements to Practical Action" explores the interconnections between climate change, policies and agreements. Authored by a diverse group of scholars and practitioners, the book argues that much can be gained, by adopting transformative approaches to climate change and adjusting current policies, agreements and frameworks. It focuses on the urgent need for proactive strategies to address the impacts of climate change. The book emphasizes that traditional adaptation approaches may not be sufficient to cope with the rapid and profound changes brought on by global warming. Instead, it advocates for transformative adaptation, which involves significant changes to social, economic, and institutional structures to build resilience. Key themes include the importance of integrating climate adaptation into policy frameworks at both national and local levels, utilizing scientific research and indigenous knowledge to inform decision-making, and fostering collaboration across various sectors and stakeholders. The authors highlight case studies that illustrate successful transformative adaptation initiatives, showcasing innovative practices and community-led actions that can serve as models for broader implementation. The book also addresses the challenges of implementing transformative adaptation, including funding constraints, governance issues, and the need for long-term planning. It calls for a shift in mindset from viewing adaptation as a reactive measure to treating it as a vital component of sustainable development. In summary, the book is a thought-provoking exploration of how the transformation may support the cause of climate change mitigation and adaptation. This book is a valuable resource for researchers, policymakers, practitioners and students interested on climate change issues. It invites readers to rethink how climate change is tackled, while inspiring transformative actions that prioritise sustainability and equity.
