This is the interdisciplinary book combining environment, educational psychology, health issues, social aspect of governance & leadership and economics. This book focuses on the understanding of waste with types, sources and characterization. It also delineates the history and waste management practices including waste collection, separation, transportation, sorting, storing, recycling and disposal. The book will explore the different types of waste and their hazards associate with the capabilities, health and environmental risks associated with the waste. This book is the linkages of different chapters from the capacity of local government in waste management, waste handling and processing. The book will provide practical application of waste management using 4Rs principles and how to manage kitchen waste for Bihari Camp, capacity of local government for international context, economics of solid waste management, e-waste management, community engagement and role of youth in waste management and finally the book have a look on the problems of waste management and make way forward for sustainable waste management.
Shafiqul Islam earned his PhD from the University of Dhaka, Master s and Bachelor degrees from the University of Chittagong. He was the postdoctoral fellow at London School of Economics and Political Science, London, UK. With over thirty years of experience, his work spans the education and development sectors, focusing on Sustainable Waste Management, Organic Farming, Climate Change Adaptation, Disaster Risk Reduction, Sustainable Development, and enhancing the social-ecological resilience of communities facing coastal disasters and environmental hazards. Dr. Islam is working as an Associate Professor at International University of Business Agriculture and Technology. Prior to his current position, he worked with the United International University, State University of Bangladesh and University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh. Dr. Islam has authored and published 60 articles and titles in international peer-reviewed journals, as well as contributed many books and book chapters with Taylor and Francis, Apple Academic Press, Rutledge, Springer Nature, IGI Global, and Green Leaf and Nova Science Publishers. He has served as an editor, reviewer, and author for numerous books, articles, and book chapters with esteemed publishers. Dr. Islam contributed to the UN Sustainable Development Report in 2016.
