This book presents a balanced view of how entomology supports both forensic investigations and sustainable agriculture. It highlights the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in advancing research and practical applications in these fields.

The first part focuses on forensic entomology, covering topics such as AI-assisted insect species identification, behaviour analysis, predictive modelling of necrophagous insect life cycles, virtual simulations, and the ethical and legal issues involved in using AI in forensic science. These chapters show how insects can help solve crimes when combined with modern technologies.

The second part covers agricultural entomology, where the focus is on managing pests and improving crop health using insect-based approaches and AI. Topics include integrated pest management, the use of beneficial insects, understanding emerging pests, plant-pollinator interactions, crop resistance strategies, insect-borne diseases, and how climate change affects pest dynamics. Additional chapters explore how AI and smart technologies are being used to monitor, predict, and manage insect-related challenges in agriculture.

This book is a useful resource for students, researchers, professionals, and policymakers working in entomology, forensic science, agriculture, environmental studies, and artificial intelligence. It provides updated insights and practical knowledge for those interested in applying science and technology to solve real-world problems involving insects.

Dr. Debasis Mitra is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology at Graphic Era (Deemed to be University), Uttarakhand, India. He has previously worked extensively on microbial applications in sustainable agriculture, both in laboratory and field settings. He completed his PhD in Microbiology from Raiganj University, West Bengal, and ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Odisha, India. Dr. Mitra further expanded his academic horizons through a virtual doctoral internship at the Agroenvironmental and Health Biotechnology Laboratory, Universidad de Santander, Colombia. He also holds a M.Sc. in Biotechnology from Graphic Era (Deemed to be University), Uttarakhand, and a B.Sc. from Oriental Institute of Science and Technology, Vidyasagar University, West Bengal, India. His research interests include plant-microbe interactions, microbial formulations, and biocontrol. He has received multiple fellowships and recognitions and has contributed substantially to academic literature, including books and chapters. Dr. Marika Pellegrini serves as an Agricultural Microbiology Researcher at the University of L’Aquila, L’Aquila, Italy. She previously worked in environmental microbiology, geomicrobiology, and microbial-based technologies. She earned her PhD in Food Sciences from the University of Teramo, Italy, with part of her research conducted in Spain. Her focus areas include beneficial microbes, sustainable bioproducts, and biomineral recovery. She leads research projects and supervises postgraduate research, with a strong record of scientific contributions. Dr. Beatriz Elena Guerra Sierra is a full-time Professor at Universidad de Santander, Santander, Colombia. With prior experience in soil microbiology and bioremediation, she earned her MSc and Doctor of Science degrees in Microbiology. Her interests lie in plant-microbe symbiosis, secondary metabolites, and biomaterials development. She guides graduate research and has published extensively across relevant themes.
