This new text assist students in understanding the important science underpinning the formulation of modern dosage forms and how pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical formulations are developed. Moreover, it covers the design and development of a wide range of pharmaceutical formulations and problem-solving issues associated with their production. The chapters support undergraduate and graduate students to develop the knowledge required for their studies or prepare for employment in the pharmaceutical industry that is estimated to be worth $1.42 trillion. The book covers topics from basic drug delivery to the future, including machine learning and sustainability approaches.

Professor Dimitrios A. Lamprou (Ph.D. MBA) is a subject matter expert in emerging pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical technologies, with a focus on the development and manufacturing of sustainable drug delivery systems, advanced medical devices, and biocompatible implants. Currently, has authored more than 180 peer-reviewed publications and delivered over 200 invited talks at leading institutions and international conferences. His contributions to pharmaceutics and biomedical engineering have also earned him a place on Stanford University’s prestigious list of the world’s top 2% of scientists, an honour he has received for several consecutive years. Dr Matthew Wylie (Ph.D., MPharm) is a Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Materials Science at the School of Pharmacy, Queen’s University Belfast. His research focuses on the design and characterisation of novel stimuli-responsive biomaterials and polymeric functional coatings for drug delivery applications, with a key interest in applying these responsive materials in clinical applications, such as targeted oral drug delivery, and the development of next-generation functional coatings for medical devices and implants. Currently, he has authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications and regularly presents his research at international conferences.
