Dr. Charlot is a Developmental Psychologist, who has been working with individuals with Intellectual and Developmental and Autism Spectrum Disorder who have severe co-occurring psychiatric disorders and challenging behaviors, for over 30 years. Dr. Charlot is an assistant professor of psychiatry at the UMass Medical School. She has published original research, and has lectured widely on a variety of topics related to the care of individuals with IDD (Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities) and ASDs (Autism Spectrum Disorders) across the United States, Canada and in Europe. She has designed and directed multiple acute inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services for individuals with ID and ASD, providing oversight in program development, operations and providing extensive training to personnel within these varied programs. Dr. Charlot developed several innovative services for people with IDD including a special outpatient clinic, inpatient service and a multidisciplinary evaluation team. All of the programs focus on use of “person centered positive approaches to assessment and care. Dr. Hassiotis is a professor in intellectual disability in the Division of Psychiatry at UCL and honorary consultant Psychiatrist at the Camden Learning Disability Service. Her main research interests is in the evaluation of interventions in people with intellectual disabilities. Current research projects include a HTA funded multicentre cluster randomised trial of a positive behaviour support in people with intellectual disabilities and challenging behaviour, for which she is the Chief Investigator. She is also collaborating with colleagues from Glasgow University on a feasibility RCT of statins in dementia in people with Down syndrome, the department of Public Health (UCL) on a pilot RCT of an intervention for obesity, and with colleagues in addictions on a brief intervention for alcohol misuse
