The final section of the book covers NGF across diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, diseases of the eye, chronic pain, and visceral disfunctions. Throughout the book, NGF is considered in the context of both mammalian and non-mammalian biology, making it an ideal reference for researchers working across the fields of cell biology, molecular biology, pharmacology, and other biomedical areas.
Antonino Cattaneo is currently Professor of Neurobiology at the Scuola Normale Superiore (Pisa), Italy, where he is the Director of the Biology Lab Bio@SNS. He is the author of numerous publications in peer-reviewed international journals and is recipient of several awards including Domenico Marotta Prize, Italian Academy of Sciences XL, the W. Jansenius Medal, Slovak Academy of Sciences and the “G. Tartufari International Prize for Biology, Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. He is a member of EMBO (European Molecular Biology Organization) and the Italian Academy of Sciences XL.He is former member of the Council of Scientists of Human Frontier Science Program Organization (HFSPO), for which he has also served for four years as the Chairman of the Grants Review Committee. He has been Visiting Fellow of Trinity College in Cambridge (UK). He is a Team Leader of the European Neuroscience Institute Young Investigator Network. Simona Capsoni has served as Associate Professor of Physiology at University of Ferrara and Scuola Normale Superiore since 2016. Prior to this, in 2010 she joined the Bio@SNS Laboratory of Biology at Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa (Italy) as contract junior professor where she discovered that NGF and hNGFp can affect the pathophysiology of glial cells, in particular microglia. At the same time, she started the line of research on NGF signalling system in painlessness diseases. She has published numerous papers and her primary research area focuses on the therapeutic application of hNGFp.
