This book combines the fundamentals of microeconomic theories of resource pricing and industrial organization theories of market structure-conduct-performance and vertical integration to understand and analyze supply chains in critical minerals markets. Providing a secure and sustainable critical minerals supply chain requires an adequate understanding of the economic and environmental impacts of critical minerals exploration and use, which this book does by exploring carefully selected topics on trade risk, investment promotion, economic policy uncertainty, green growth, and supply chain ethics. Dr. Phoumin Han is a Senior Energy Economist with the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA). He has more than 20 years of experience at various international and intergovernmental organizations and multidisciplinary research consortiums related to energy markets and technologies, the environment, integrated water resource management, governance, and economic development in the region of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and East Asia. He specializes in economic development and policy and applied econometrics. Much of his career over the past decade has involved the power sector, sustainable hydropower development, renewable energy research, energy efficiency, clean coal technology, energy security, and energy demand and supply forecasting. Professor Rabindra Nepal is a professor of economics with an internationally recognized research expertise in economic and policy analysis related to energy, the environment, and natural resources. He has successfully led and participated in collaborative recent research projects involving organisations such as the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia, the National Research Institute of Papua New Guinea, the South Australia Productivity Commission, etc. while his advisory roles have benefited national and international organisations like the Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water, the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank and the United Nations Environment Programme. He is a co-editor of Economic Analysis and Policy and serves on the international advisory board of Energy Policy. Dr. Farhad Taghizadeh-Hesary is an associate professor of economics and finance at Tokai University in Tokyo, Japan, and serves as the Chief Economist of Climate Finance Asia. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Environmental Assessment Policy and Management and an Associate Editor for several other academic journals. In 2023, he was awarded the Medal and Commendation for Science and Technology by Japan’s Minister of Education in recognition of his outstanding research achievements.
